Mainline Medical Associates is an eleven physician primary care practice with offices located in Cresson and Altoona. The practice originated in 1982 in Cresson. Dr. Larry Stem started the practice with fellow physician Dr. Anton Skerl. Dr. Skerl ultimately left the practice, but they were joined the following year by Dr. Mitch Joseph. Drs. Stem and Joseph continue to practice family medicine. The practice continued to grow and add physicians and in 1996 the practice decided to open an office in Altoona. In addition to the 11 physicians, the practice also serves its patients with four physician assistants, a dietician, and a physical therapy clinic that employs two physical therapists.
The practice offers a wide variety of services to all ages of patients including infants. Those services include the following:
In addition to offering the above menu of services, the physicians of Mainline Medical Associates also extend their medical knowledge and skills to a variety of other organizations, schools, and facilities. Our physicians attend to patients at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona and at several local nursing homes. Mainline physicians also serve as medical director at some of these nursing homes in addition to local hospice services. We also provide medical supervision to the healthcare providers working in a local “wellness” facility. Physicians from Mainline Medical serve as school physicians for the Altoona Area and Penn Cambria School Districts and as the medical directors of the St. Francis University Physician Assistant Program. Lastly, Mainline Medical is a very active participant in the education and training of future healthcare providers by hosting and providing shadowing opportunities to students in many healthcare disciplines.
